Angostura 1919 Rum Single Modernist Rum

Angostura 1919 is a specially blended multiple award winning rum, which celebrates a very particular date in the development of the rum industry in Trinidad & Tobago, as well as the Caribbean. After a fire in 1932, which destroyed the Government Rum Bond, the master blender of Fernandes Distillers, J.B. Fernandes, bought the charred casks, only to discover they had been filled in the year 1919. The nose is rich and spiced whilst the palate is juicy and sweet with allspice, caramel and creamy vanilla. How life changes. Angostura Bitters were originally made by a surgeon, Dr Siegert, for his medical practice back in 1824. I doubt he had any inkling that the business would go on to change so radically- not only for the obvious reasons, but also the business would move from Venezuela to Trinidad some 50 years later. They were more renowned for their aromatic bitters until roughly 1940 when a conscious decision to increase their expertise in and production of Rum was taken. Vanilla cream, rounded and spiced.
