Rhododendron Elizabeth Evergreen Bushy Shrub

“Elizabeth” is a Rhododendron varietal that is compact and in the right acidic conditions hosts a voluminous quantity of vibrant scarlet-red flowers in mid-spring. The flowers are approximately 7 cm in length and these large blooms grow on trusses. Foliage is composed of medium green leaves that are in an elongated oval shape and about 5 to 7 cm in length. With a preference for partially shaded and sheltered areas, these plants require a bit more thought and care into their placement. As well, they are ideally grown in soils with acidity around 5.0 pH. Full-hardy in the UK, however, they do require shelter and protection from strong winds. Due to its compact size, this variety does well in containers which allow you to adjust for the soil acidity, partial shade and sheltered requirements. Other suggested planting areas include informal garden areas, like those around a cottage. Also, they make wonderful additions to flower beds and borders. The springtime blooms are rather impressive and will provide you with a staggering amount of flowers, which when properly grown can completely cover the plant. Pot Size: 9cm Plant Height (Inc. Pot): 15-25cm Characteristics: A compact evergreen shrub with dark leaves and large red blooms. Growth & Spread: Average rate grower. Heights from 0.8 to 1.5 with spreads of similar dimensions. Flourishing Season: Large, papery scarlet-red blooms appear in mid-spring, in March and April. Water & Maintenance: Water until established. A medium-care plant, requires acidic soil and prefers rainfall for moisture.
