Raimat Organic Albariño 2023, Costers del Segre

Organic Albariño from the historic Raimat estate in the hidden gem of D. O. Costers del Segre. Raimat has more than a century of history behind it, and is widely regarded as the winery that drove forward the creation of the D. O. Costers del Segre. In 1914 Manuel Raventós acquired 3, 000 hectares of barren land surrounding the ruins of a castle; now the prestigious vineyard estate. Although Albariño is a grape native to Rías Baixas, this wine shows that it can also thrive in other denominations, as in this case in the D. O. Costers del Segre. Saira is a wonderful paradise for birds and the inspiration behind this wine. In Saira, a village near the winery, the huge nests of stalks are visible on all tall buildings. Considering that below them, the vineyards are completely sustainable, there is no better place to build their home. To mark this, the winery has made a wine using the name of the village, and the symbol of the stalk. This Albariño Saira is a made with organic grapes and certified by the Catalan Council of Integrated Production. Specifically, the fruit comes from two vineyard plots, each harvested and made into wine separately before being blended. How does it taste? Aromatic and complex with mineral aromas and notes of white flowers, tropical fruit and grapefruit flavours. Its creaminess is balanced by acidity, making it an ideal pairing for seafood aperitifs, rice dishes and Asian style tempuras.
